Taking Easter Off-Road

Heading off-road for Easter? We've got some tips on how to bring Easter traditions off-road for the whole family.

Easter isn’t just about backyard egg hunts – it’s also one of the busiest weekends of the year for caravanning and camping. Whether you’re off-grid in the outback, parked by a lake, or soaking up the coastal breeze, there’s no reason the Easter Bunny can’t find you.

Here’s how we’ve bought the traditions of Easter on the road with us over the years, BMPRO style.

Outdoor Easter Egg Hunts

Forget the backyard, this is next-level egg hunting! Bright plastic eggs are the perfect vessel for hiding chocolate in the wild. Why? The bright colours stand out well against nature’s backdrop of rocks, grass and even red dirt. PLUS, keeping the chocolate in plastic means wildlife are less likely to eat it, keeping our native animals safe and making sure you don’t lose your stash, win-win!

Easter Bunny Off Road

Take the magic off-road by creating a bunny trail around your campsite. Use a stencil and flour to leave paw prints in the dirt or sand, leading to hidden Easter eggs or a special surprise.

Add to the adventure by scattering small treats along the trail, setting up a treasure hunt, or leaving a note from the “Easter Bunny” for the kids to find.

Turn Your Van into an Easter Wonderland

Who says caravans can’t join in on the Easter fun?

Deck out your van with bunny ears on the side mirrors, hang fairy lights and pastel streamers for a cheerful vibe and get the kids involved by making homemade Easter banners and decorations.

Add a festive touch with Easter-themed window decals, a wreath on the door and even an inflatable bunny to greet visitors.

The more creative and over-the-top, the better! Turn your van into a mobile Easter celebration that’s sure to make every stop feel like a holiday adventure

Source Locally

What’s the best part of visiting a new location? We’ll give you a hint it rhymes with makery – Yes! You guessed it – it’s the local bakery! They are sure to have hot cross buns for Easter, so skip the pre-packed buns and find the freshest, warmest hot cross buns in the heart of your new destination.

Chat with locals, park staff, or fellow campers, they’ll point you to the hidden gems. Nothing beats a fresh, butter-slathered bun and supporting local businesses makes it even sweeter.

Games, Games and more Games

Spending quality time together is what this trip is all about right? So get outdoors and create those core memories together. Here’s some of our favourites:

  • Egg and Spoon Relay: This one is a classic. Give each person a spoon and a plastic Easter egg and watch as they race to a designated point and back without dropping the egg. If they do, they’ll have to start over. A perfect way to burn off some of that post-choccy energy.
  • Bunny Hop Race: Grab some sleeping bags or pillow cases and host a hopping race. This one’s sure to get everyone laughing as they hop their way to the finish line.
  • Egg Toss Challenge: Team up for this fun (and sometimes messy) game. Each pair gets one egg to toss back and forth. With each successful toss, they take a step back. The goal? Get as far as possible without breaking the egg. The team that completes the most tosses without a crack wins.
  • Easter Movie Night: After a full day of games, winding down with an Easter movie is the perfect way to relax. Movies like Hop or Peter Rabbit are great choices to calm the kids after a fun-filled, sugar-fueled day

Make Meals Fun

Make this Easter unforgettable with meals that bring fun, flavor and a touch of whimsy to your camping trip. From breakfast to dessert, these camping-friendly ideas will add some festive cheer to your holiday and bring a smile to big and little kids faces.

  • Bunny Face Pancakes: Hop into the camp kitchen and whip up some fluffy pancakes shaped like bunnies. Add banana slices for long ears, pretzels for whiskers, blueberries for eyes and marshmallows for buck teeth.
  • Easter Bunny Fry-Up: A simple, adorable way to make breakfast exciting. Fry an egg, then add strips of bacon for bunny ears, blueberries for eyes and chives for whiskers. It’s like your own little Easter bunny on a plate!
  • Baileys Easter Eggs: For an indulgent grown-up treat, cut off the top of a hollow Easter egg, fill it with Baileys Irish Cream, and top with a perfectly toasted marshmallow. The warm, gooey combination is perfect for a cosy campfire evening. *Pro Tip* Leave the egg in the foil wrapper to avoid melting/spillage.
  • Easter S’mores: Simply cut the top off a hollow egg, toast your marshmallow by the fire and stuff it into the hollow egg. Wait until it starts to melt then wedge it between two plain biscuits or eat it as it is. For a super indulgent treat use toasted hot cross buns instead of biscuits.
  • Toasted marshmallows: Now this a campfire classic – crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside and pure magic. For an Easter twist, cut the top of you marshmallow in half to make bunny ears!. Whether you like them golden brown or perfectly charred, they’re a must-have for any outdoor adventure.

Easter camping is all about creating new traditions and making lasting memories with those you love. So grab your gear, add a little Easter fun and get ready for an unforgettable holiday adventure.
