Goodness, winter in 2025 felt like it would never end! Thankfully, it’s finally starting to warm up, so it’s a great time to head out and explore.
Spring is such a beautiful time – think colourful flowers blooming, longer days and warmer weather.
But before you get too excited (don’t worry, we’re guilty of it too), you should turn your mind to some spring cleaning. It might take a bit of effort, especially if you haven’t been travelling during winter, but the payoff is worth it, no doubt about it.
A clean, organised space makes for a more enjoyable and stress-free travel experience, allowing you to focus on the adventure ahead.
Before you start scrubbing, take some time to declutter. This will make cleaning easier and free up space for your next trip.
Make a list of all of the spaces inside your van and go through them all, one by one – storage compartments, cupboards and drawers – don’t leave anywhere untouched.
Get rid of items you no longer need or donate them if you didn’t use them on your last trip.
Unfortunately this step isn’t a very fun one, unless you like cleaning. But it’s essential. So, roll up your sleeves, put on some of your favourite tunes and give your van the refresh it deserves.
Start by dusting and wiping down all surfaces, including countertops, shelves and cabinets, as well as windows and mirrors.
With everything clean and fresh, it’s time to organise! This is the fun part. If you haven’t been smart about your storage, now’s the time to change it up.
It’s always easier to maintain a clean and organised area when your storage solutions are easy too.
Invest in storage solutions like bins, baskets, and dividers to keep items in place and maximise space. Label compartments for easy access, and consider adding hooks or racks inside cupboard doors for extra storage.
Store frequently used items in easily reachable spots, and place less-used items in harder-to-reach areas.
Spring cleaning isn’t just about the inside – the outside needs attention too. Wash the outside of your van to remove dirt, grime and any road debris. While you’re at it, check the seals around the windows and doors to ensure they’re in good condition.
If your caravan has an awning, clean it as well. A well-maintained awning provides shade and comfort on your travels, so it’s worth keeping it in good condition.
Spring is also an ideal time to inspect your caravan’s equipment and systems. Check the condition of your tyres, brakes and lights and ensure your battery and water systems are functioning properly.
